World Bioethics Day 2026

By | October 12, 2026

On 19 October 2005, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) adopted the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights – the first global document that anchors ethical standards in science and medicine within international human rights law.

To mark the 10th anniversary of this adoption, 19 October was designated World Bioethics Day. The International Chair in Bioethics Units – World Medical Association (WMA) Cooperating Centre is the initiator of World Bioethics Day celebrations. The Centre for Bioethics and Biolaw is also a member of this organization.
